The Overwhelm Beyond Business

When I first got to this intersection of motherhood and entrepreneurship, I focused intensely on streamlining my business processes. I believed that efficiency in work was the cure for my overwhelm. I had workflows that I was proud of and automations that handled tasks for me, but most of my days were still stressful. That’s when I realized: it wasn’t just the business that needed systems, but my home life too.

Imagine this: you’ve conquered your to-do list at work for the day, but then you step into your home, greeted by the chaos of dinner planning, laundry heaps, and a pile of unsorted mail. It quickly became apparent to me that without home management systems, the overwhelm would continue.

Crafting a Harmonious Home Life

One area that often unraveled my days was meal planning. Just thinking about what to cook each evening was such a pain. The evenings, when the kids would start tugging at my clothes for dinner, used to feel like a battle zone. So, I took a step back and did what I knew to do, build a system. Systems, after all, are simply the unique ways we do things—our processes, our tools, and even our people.

Every Friday, I decided on meals for the upcoming week and created a shopping list. Saturday mornings became my designated grocery time. I’d pick up everything we needed, including the seemingly endless supply of fruit consumed by my kids. The way my kids eat berries needs to be studied. But anyway, having things planned out relieved my stress and decision fatigue around dinner time.

And now, Sunday evenings, after the house settles into its nightly quiet, I meal prep for the week. What was once a headache has turned into a quiet time with worship music playing as I prepare for the week. When meal prep becomes a moment of peace rather than stress, it’s almost like nurturing myself while nurturing my family.

Beyond the Meals: Creating a Solid Foundation

But it goes beyond meals. Integrating systems into every aspect of home management, from cleaning to family routines, forms the foundation for a life where we can thrive in both our roles as mothers and business owners. When you think about your home, is it your biggest hurdle, or can it become your greatest ally?

Start by pinpointing your biggest stressor. Is it laundry piling up? The chaotic rush of morning routines? Whatever it is, begin there. Build a system, your system.

Embrace What Compliments Your Life

In this journey towards establishing life systems, remember to establish routines that complement and soothe the rhythm of your life. Let them act as your support team. You aren’t choosing between being a fantastic mom and an impactful business owner. With the right systems in place, you can be both.
